How Doors Come Off Track
A garage door rides on rollers inside metal tracks on each side of the opening. A door can jump the track after being bumped by a vehicle, when a roller breaks, when a cable slips off its drum, or when the tracks bend out of alignment. Once a door is off track it can hang crooked, bind, or drop, and forcing it usually makes the damage worse.
The Repair Process
A technician first secures the door so it cannot fall, then identifies the root cause, whether that is a damaged roller, a loose track, or a cable that has come off the drum. The rollers are reseated in the track, bent sections are straightened or replaced, and cables are rewound and tensioned so both sides lift evenly again.
Preventing a Repeat
After realignment the technician checks the track brackets, lubricates the rollers, and confirms the door travels smoothly through its full range. Worn rollers or loose hardware are corrected so the door stays on track and closes flush against the floor.
